How to coordinate furniture colors in your home

Build your color choices around the room you have. A small group of actual samples is more useful than comparing unrelated screen images.

Start with fixed finishes

Note the floor, walls, doors and any furniture you will keep. Compare warm and cool undertones in the same light. A white or gray fabric can look different beside wood, stone or another neutral.

Review day and evening light

Place fabric and finish samples together in the intended room where possible. Look at them in daylight and under your usual lighting. Screens and photographs can change the appearance of colors and texture.

Repeat selectively

Choose a main upholstery color, a supporting finish and smaller accents. Repeat a detail through cushions or tables without making every item identical. Confirm fabric and finish codes on the final order rather than relying only on descriptive color names.
