Wooden tables: what to check beyond the color
A wood-colored finish does not identify the table’s construction. Ask about the actual material, surface and care before choosing a design.
Identify the materials
Check whether each part uses solid wood, veneer, engineered wood or another material. Ask about the top, edges and base separately when the specification is unclear. Do not infer timber species or durability from a photograph.
Check dimensions and use
Compare the table with the seating and leave room to move around it. Confirm that the surface and construction suit the intended use. Natural variation in a material and the finish shown in a photograph should be discussed before ordering.
Follow the finish instructions
Use coasters and protective mats, wipe up spills and dry the surface. Do not choose polish or a cleaning product based only on a wood name. Follow the care guidance for the selected finish.
