How to style a side table without crowding it
A side table works best when there is still room to use it. Start with what you reach for from the sofa, then add a few details that suit the room.
Give each item a purpose
A lamp, a book or a small tray can be enough. Leave a clear area for a cup and avoid decorations that block the view between seats. Keep lamp cables clear of walking routes.
Balance height and footprint
A tall vase can overwhelm a compact table. Compare the base of each object with the usable tabletop, and try the arrangement while sitting beside it rather than judging only from across the room.
Protect the finish
Use suitable coasters and protective pads. Keep water from flowers away from the surface and follow the care instructions for the actual finish. Styling accessories shown in photographs are not necessarily included with the table.
