Fitting a bench at the end of the bed
- Choose a bench narrower than the bed: for a bed for a 180 × 200 cm mattress, 120–150 cm looks balanced.
- Leave at least 60 cm between the bench and the wall or the wardrobe, so you can walk past.
- Keep the bench low enough not to hide the footboard you like; most of ours are 45–47 cm high.
- A storage bench keeps blankets and pillows close for guests.
A stool for the dressing table
A stool of about 45 cm suits most dressing tables; check that it slides under the table when not in use. A round stool turns easily in a tight space, and a storage stool such as the Satr round stool, 50 × 50 × 48 cm, hides small things.
A reading corner
A daybed or a settee with a back by the window makes a quiet place to read. Keep it out of the walkway to the wardrobe and the bathroom, add a side table and a lamp, and leave the curtains free to open.
Protect the daily routes
- Measure around the bed, the wardrobe doors and the bedroom entrance before you choose.
- Mark the full footprint of the seat on the floor, including any part that sticks out.
- Make sure drawers and storage stay easy to reach.
- Choose for the activity: reading and putting on shoes may call for different seats.
Coordinate without overfilling
Use the bed, the curtains and the floor as the starting palette, and repeat the wood or the fabric of the bed in the bench. Seating in a small bedroom
- A wall-mounted bench, such as the Jidar bench, keeps the floor clear and is easier to clean under.
- A stool that slides under the dressing table disappears when not in use.
- A storage bench at the end of the bed replaces a chest for blankets.
- Skip the reading chair if it would block the wardrobe doors; a bench does the job.
