How to choose the size and height of a side table
Choose a side table from the seat beside it. Its useful height, surface area and position matter as much as the design.
Try the reach
Compare the tabletop with the sofa arm and your seated position. Check that you can set down a cup without an awkward reach. The right height depends on the actual sofa and intended use, not a universal measurement.
Check the available space
Measure the gap beside the sofa and leave the walking route clear. Include the table base and any projecting legs, not only the top. Check drawers or other moving parts if the selected design has them.
Confirm the finish
Ask what the top and base are made from and how to care for them. Match or contrast the sofa and other tables deliberately. Review dimensions and what is included before ordering.
