Connected or Separate Sofa Pieces for a Majlis?

How many guests will each seat?
Allow 60–70 cm of seat width per person. A connected run loses roughly one seat's depth at each corner; separate pieces lose the space of their arms between seats.

When connected seating is the better choice
- A men's majlis with long, fixed walls that you want lined from the head of the majlis to the door.
- A room where every centimetre counts: no lost space at the corners.
- A modern majlis where one continuous line looks calmer than many pieces.
- You know the room will stay the same for years.
When separate pieces are the better choice
- A family living room that changes layout for gatherings, Ramadan or the children's study time.
- A rented home, or a move expected in the next few years.
- Narrow stairs or a small lift: separate sofas are easier to carry in.
- You want contrast, for example two armchairs in another fabric.
A middle way: a corner sofa plus pieces
Many majlis rooms work best with both: a corner sofa on the two main walls and two armchairs or ottomans on the third side, facing the head of the majlis. The corner gives the continuous seating, and the separate pieces can move when the room is used differently.

Measuring for connected seating
- Measure each wall from the corner to the first door, window or air-conditioning unit.
- Take off 10–20 cm at each open end, so the seating does not touch a door frame.
- Decide the corner side while standing in the room, facing the wall.
- Check the way in: large corner sofas arrive in sections, so tell us the size of the lift and any turn on the stairs. Our guide to measuring doors and lifts shows how.
Timing for the season
Made to order is delivered in up to 15 business days, with free delivery and installation; ready-to-ship seating usually arrives in 1–7 business days. For Ramadan and Eid, order a few weeks ahead so there is time to finalise your design and agree the delivery date.
Tables for each layout
- Connected seating: one long coffee table, or two, down the centre, and a side table at each corner where two runs meet, so every guest can reach a cup.
- Separate pieces: a coffee table in front of the main sofa and a side table between each armchair and its neighbour.
- Height: keep coffee tables about 35–50 cm high, close to the seat height, and side tables about level with the arm.
