Coffee table or side table?

Coffee tables come rectangular or square; side tables come round, square or rectangular.

A coffee table holds what the whole seating area shares: cups, trays and books. A side table serves one or two seats and carries a lamp, so most living rooms need one coffee table and one or two side tables. Most of our coffee tables are 120 × 60 cm, and our side tables are all 50 cm high. In a small living room, a pair of side tables can replace the coffee table and keep the floor open. Each product page lists its exact size.

Pairing tables

Choose a coffee table about two-thirds the length of the sofa and keep 40⁠–⁠45 cm to the seats. Add a side table at one or both ends, in the same finish or a contrasting one. Keep the side table close to the height of the sofa arm, and the coffee table at the height of the seat or a little lower. A round side table beside a rectangular coffee table softens a room with many straight lines. In a small room, keep the two finishes close in tone so the pieces read as one set, and add an ottoman for an extra seat or a footrest.

Tables for the majlis

In a majlis the seats line the walls, so one long coffee table rarely reaches everyone. Two matching coffee tables down the centre, with a side table between every two seats, keep tea and coffee within reach and leave a clear path for serving. For an eleven-seat majlis, plan two coffee tables and four or five side tables, with about 60 cm between the pieces so guests can step through; a few ottomans add seats for extra guests.

Finishes and care

Each design lists its available finishes, and our showrooms in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam have samples to compare side by side. Use coasters under hot cups and wipe spills quickly; the care guide explains how to look after each finish. A soft, slightly damp cloth is enough for daily cleaning; dry the surface straight away, and keep the tables out of strong direct sun to protect the finish.
