Classic vs Neoclassical Sofas: How to Choose
Updated
A classic sofa is defined by its details: rolled or scroll arms, button or diamond tufting, decorative edging and turned legs. A neoclassical sofa keeps that outline with less ornament and calmer colours. Choose the size first, because ornate arms and backs take more room than the seat suggests, then the fabric: velvet or jacquard in a deeper colour suits a formal majlis. Our classic-detail sofa sets start from SAR 3,786 before offers and are made to order in your fabric. Looking for a classic sofa set? Browse classic sofas with their sizes and prices.

Prices before offers, checked 22 October 2026. Prices include VAT and are the starting prices of the configurations shown on each design page; the price on the design page is the one that applies.
The details come from each design page; every set starts as seven seats, a three-seat sofa, a two-seat sofa and two armchairs, and you can change the pieces in the studio.

Size: classic frames take more room
- Rolled and scroll arms add width: compare the overall width of each piece, not only the seat.
- Winged and high backs need more depth from the wall and look heavy in a low room.
- Make a full-size outline of the main sofa on paper or tape and place it in the room before you order.
- Check that the sofa passes the building's lift and stairs; tell us about narrow access when you order.
Comfort: try the seat, not the style
Compare the seat height, the depth and the back support in person where you can. A suitable depth depends on the height of the person and how they sit, and the seat depth is different from the overall depth in a specification. Broad arms are good for leaning, but whether they can be sat on depends on the design. A traditional style does not by itself mean a longer life or less maintenance than a modern one; the frame, the filling and the fabric decide that.
Fabrics and colours for a classic sofa
- Velvet: deepens buttons and curves; brush it regularly and keep it out of strong sun.
- Jacquard: a woven pattern suits armchairs or one sofa rather than the whole set.
- Colours: burgundy, navy, emerald, bronze and cream with gold-toned details are the traditional palette; a neoclassical set looks fresh in grey, taupe or soft blue.
- Large pieces: avoid oversized patterns or strongly trend-led colours on the biggest sofa; change the look with cushions. More in sofa fabric types.
Arranging a classic sofa set
- Choose tables whose height works with the sofa arms, so guests reach them easily and the furniture looks coordinated.
- Avoid crowding a small room with many ornate pieces; balance them with plain tables and walls.
- Choose a rug that fits the room and set the sofas' front legs on its edge.
- Repeat one finish, such as gold-toned metal or dark wood, across tables, lamps and frames.
Caring for classic details
- Dust carved and decorated wood with a soft dry brush; dust collects in the recesses.
- Vacuum around buttons with an upholstery brush on low suction.
- Blot spills on velvet straight away without rubbing, then brush the pile.
- Follow the care label of your fabric and finish; our furniture care guide gives the basics.
Where classic sofas work best
- A formal reception room or men's majlis, where the sofas are the focus and guests sit upright.
- A large room with high ceilings, which carries tall and winged backs without feeling crowded.
- With calm walls and simple tables, so the details of the sofa stand out instead of competing.
A classic sofa in a modern home
Neoclassical designs, with buttons but simpler arms and a calmer colour, sit comfortably in modern apartments. Pair them with plain walls, one metal finish and modern lighting, and keep the rest of the furniture simple. A single classic armchair can also bring the style into a modern room without a whole set.
Ordering a classic set: what to confirm
- The pieces of the set and the width of each, arms included.
- The fabric name and code, and how the buttons or the edging look in that fabric.
- The leg finish and any decorative wood or metal details.
- The timing: delivered and installed in up to 15 business days.
Questions about classic sofas
Are classic sofas comfortable for everyday use?
They can be; comfort depends on the seat height, depth and back support, not the style. Try the seat before you choose.
Which fabric suits a classic sofa set?
Velvet or jacquard in a deeper colour for a formal room; a chenille in a neutral shade for a neoclassical set used every day.
Can I change the pieces of a classic set?
Yes. Every set starts as seven seats, and you can choose a larger combination, a smaller grouping or a single sofa in the studio.
