Living Room Sofas: How to Choose for Your Space

Living Room Sofas: How to Choose for Your Space

Start with how you use the room: a TV room suits a corner sofa or a long sofa facing the screen; a room for visitors suits a sofa set with seats facing each other. Then size it to the wall: a main sofa about two thirds of the wall length, with 80–90 cm free in front for walking. KLIK Decor sofa sets start from SAR 3,330 made to order and from SAR 3,468 ready to ship, before offers, with free delivery and installation.

Decide what the room is for

Main use Best layout Typical choice
Watching TV with the family Seats facing one screen Corner sofa with a chaise, or a long sofa and an armchair
Receiving guests Seats facing each other around a table Sofa set: 3 + 2 + 1 + 1
Both An L-shape facing the screen plus one armchair facing the sofa Corner sofa plus an armchair or two ottomans

Check the sightline from every seat: nobody should sit with their back to the main route or to the person speaking.

Size: how long a sofa fits?

Wall length Main sofa Example
3–3.5 m 190–230 cm three-seat sofa A three-seat sofa with an armchair
3.5–4.5 m A three-seat and a two-seat sofa, or a 300 × 200 cm corner A seven-seat set
Over 4.5 m A long corner sofa or a U-shape A corner sofa of 5 m or more

Our custom three-seat sofas run from 190 to 230 cm, two-seat sofas from 140 to 170 cm and armchairs from 85 to 105 cm wide, most about 90 cm deep. Measure the whole piece, arms and back included, not the seat label. For sets, read how many seats and pieces a sofa set needs.

Shape: straight, set or corner?

  • Straight sofa: fits one wall and leaves the rest of the room flexible.
  • Sofa set: separate pieces you can arrange and move; the classic choice for conversation.
  • Corner sofa: the most seats on two walls and the easiest for lounging; compare both in corner sofa or sofa set.

Comfort: depth, height and back

Sit on the sofa for a few minutes if you can. A seat height of about 45 cm suits most adults; deeper seats suit lounging and taller people, shallower seats suit upright sitting and older family members. Loose back cushions feel softer; a fixed back keeps its shape with less plumping.

Fabric and colour for a family room

For daily use with children, choose a tightly woven chenille or a fabric marked easy-care or water-resistant, in a mid tone. Keep strong colours for cushions and the rug, which are easy to change. Our guide to sofa fabric types compares velvet, chenille, bouclé and woven fabrics, and coordinating furniture colours helps with the palette.

Plan the whole seating group

  • Mark the sofas, armchairs, tables and rug on the floor with tape before you order.
  • Keep 40–45 cm between the seat and the coffee table, and 80–90 cm on the main walkway.
  • Place side tables where each seat can put down a cup.
  • Choose a rug large enough for the front legs of every seat to rest on it.
  • Start colours from the floor and the furniture you keep, and compare samples in day and evening light.

Before you order: what to confirm

  • The way in: measure doors, corridors, stairs and the lift, including space to turn large pieces.
  • The sample: see the fabric in good light and read its care instructions; a soft first touch does not prove how it will wear.
  • One final specification: the model, pieces, dimensions, orientation, fabric, finish, the complete price and the timing.
  • The terms: a price per metre is not the price of the whole layout; read the cancellation and warranty terms.

Made to order is delivered in up to 15 business days; ready-to-ship sofas are usually delivered in 1–7 business days. Our guide to measuring doors and lifts covers the delivery checks.

The sofa and the TV

Place the main sofa opposite the screen, centred on it, and keep the viewing distance comfortable for your screen size, usually between about 2 and 3.5 m in a living room. A chaise end or an armchair at an angle gives a second good view without blocking the walkway. Avoid putting the sofa with its back to a window that reflects on the screen.

Light around the sofa

  • A floor or table lamp at one end of the sofa for reading.
  • A general ceiling light that does not shine straight into the screen.
  • Sheer curtains for the afternoon sun, which also keep the fabric from fading.

Ready-made or made to order for the living room?

If you need the room ready within days, ready-to-ship sofas and corner sofas are usually delivered in 1–7 business days in fixed sizes. If your wall, the corner side or the fabric matters more, made to order gives you the size and fabric you choose. Our guide to ready-made or made-to-order sofas compares the two side by side.

Which fabric suits a family with children?
A tightly woven chenille or a fabric marked easy-care or water-resistant, in a mid tone that hides marks.
